Oro Espanol (translation: Spanish Gold) is the sweetest little boy. As soon as he sees me he starts to do that "whuuuu whuuuu" noise like horses do when they think you may have a treat for them! His sire is the Spanish Arab, El Dorado I, and his mom is a leased Spanish Arab import from Germany, KAR Fabiola.
He has an interesting story - in that it is a miracle he is even here! It took two years, two mares and two stallions before I achieved the pregnancy!! I thought his mom was barren, and I test bred El Dorado I to her (he had been inactive for five years, so he shouldn't have had viable sperm until his system was "cleaned out"). Ta daaaa!!! What a shock when I discovered the mare was pregnant!! The mare went overdue, and the colt was born at precisely 12 months of gestation! He is a late baby - July 31. He was very small, and I measured his height with a yard stick!! I came into the house and said he was 34", not even as tall as the ruler. So my husband said, "So, he's Sub-ruler, then." And that's his barn name!! We have shortened it to just "Ruler" which is much more appropriate for a gentleman of his caliber!
